Heroes of Democracy, formerly known as Dolls for Democracy, is a free educational program that teaches kids about tolerance and why differences should be celebrated. It’s origins spring from the 1950s national women’s organization, B’nai B’rith women.
“Doll Ladies” go to schools and other child organizations in their local area and use 12-inch character dolls of famous humanitarians to teach children about the perils of racism and bullying, and how these people made a difference. The presentation encourages student interaction and lasts about 30 minutes. Doll Ladies also provide the teacher a supplement that helps aid in continuing the discussion.
